Trip overview

The Dahabiya is a type of traditional Egyptian sailing boat, used for tourist cruises on the Nile.  The name "Dahabiya" means "little golden boat" in Arabic, and it is often seen as a symbol of luxury and elegance.

Historically, the Dahabiya was used as a means of transport for wealthy European tourists visiting Egypt in the 19th century.  The boat offered a comfortable and scenic travel experience, cruising the Nile with white sails and ornate wooden decks.

Over the years, the Dahabiya has become less popular due to the rise of cruising on larger, more modern ships.  However, in the 1990s there was a resurgence of interest in traditional boats, and the Dahabiya became a popular option for Nile cruises, offering travelers a more intimate and authentic travel experience.

Modern Dahabiyas are equipped with all modern conveniences, while retaining their traditional charm and elegance.  They often have spacious cabins, sunny decks and comfortable lounges, as well as delicious cuisine offering local and international cuisine.

Today, the Dahabiya has become an icon of tourism in Egypt, offering visitors a unique experience to learn about the ancient history of the country while navigating the famous Nile River.
